3 foods to try in the Philippines
How was your Golden week holiday?
I was lucky to travel this time and reflect. I visited Philippines for a week by myself. Actually, I have booked my flight 6 months ago at Jetstar. Have you tried Jetstar before? This was my first time and I really like that they only close the check-in counter 40mins before departure. My flight to Manila was aroung 8:10 pm so I had enough time after clocking out from work. (Yes, I had to ran with my suitcase from my work hahaha).
I want to introduce 3 Filipino foods that is worth trying if you ever visit Philipines 😉
① Taho
They usually eat this for breakfast I think…This is most frequently sold out in the streets by roaming vendors. Taho is a mixture of silken tofu, gulaman (agar jelly) and arnibal (it is like a thick sugar syrup). This is a famous filipino street food that is healthy and very cheap. Only 20pesos (about 112yen) for one big mug cup. You can bring your own mug from home because they usually pass nearby houses.
② Palabok and fried chicken from Jollibee
Jollibee is one of the most famous fast food in the Philippines. Their signatured fried chicken called “Chicken Joy” is really delicious and they have many set menus with it. I personally recommend chicken joy with Palabok. Palabok is a Filipino rice noodle dish topped with shrimp, gravy (yellow thick sauce), smoked fish flakes, pork crackling and eggs. Only about 110pesos (605yen) with drink.
③ Halo-Halo from Razon
Did you know that Halo-halo is originally from the Philippines? Some convenience stores in Japan sell halo-halo in summer so you might have heard of this food. Halo-halo is a popular dessert with a mixture of shaved ice and evaporated milk to which various ingredients are added, including boiled sweet beans, coconut, sago, gulaman (agar jelly), tubers, fruits, and yam ice cream. Although there are many types of halo-halo, I highly recommend trying halo-halo in Razon. It is a chinese restaurant that you can find in shopping mall. It is very simple but taste really delicious. Only 85pesos (about 467yen) for this long tall glass.
To be honest, there are so many good filipino foods that I would like to share here but it might take a day to do it. I hope you can try these food at least if you have the chance to visit the Philippines someday.
Thanks for reading & have a great day!
